Having the right pictures attached to your submission is vital to getting your item rented. In fact, it’s just as important as getting the year / make / model or architectural style correct. Don’t let that scare you though! As long as you have a digital camera or camera phone, our simple guidelines will help you put your best foot forward and get your item rented.
Know the camera angles required for your submission.
Scroll down this page and reference the Category Requirements section to learn what viewpoints are needed for your item.
Stage the photo and remove distractions.
Clean your location or item and eliminate normal background objects such as paperwork, clothing, pets and people.
Consider the lighting.
Pay attention to how much light you have and where it’s coming from. If you’re shooting outdoors, be careful not to take photos of your item when the sun is directly behind it. If you can’t avoid the sun, use the camera’s flash to fill in Shadows.
Use the 2/3 rule.
Consistently position your camera at the same height and distance from your item so that your item fills 2/3 of your camera’s view finder / screen in each photo.
Orient your camera in the same direction.
Either take all photos of your item with a portrait / vertical alignment OR in a landscape / horizontal alignment. Do not submit a combination of both orientation types for the same item.
Don’t use filters.
Avoid using filters such as sepia, black and white, or other colors.
